This Date In History

November 2, 1947, Howard Hughes flew the "Spruce Goose" just over a mile for over a minute at an altitude of 70 feet.  It was done to prove the plane could actually fly!
The following year on this date in 1948, Harry S. Truman defeated Thomas E. Dewey in the Greatest Presidential upset in history.  The Chicago Daily Tribunes headline the next day was "Dewey Defeats Truman."  Gotta luv it!  Especially since I happen to live in Harry Truman's hometown of Independence, MO!
